Effective Strategies for Teaching English Language Learners - a collection of abstracts

  Lesson Rubric

“When I came here, I couldn’t understand English; but now, I can understand because teacher taught me English. If I talked to teacher and she showed me a smile, it gave me a lot of relief because I was so afraid about talking to someone. I always thought, “If teacher couldn’t understand what I said…” It made me more afraid. Teacher was talking slowly every time and teacher used easy vocabulary words. It really helped me a lot. When I couldn’t understand what teacher wants to say something to me, teacher wrote a picture on blackboard or a paper. The picture also helps me to understand.” Shoko, 14, grade 7.
