New Bilingual/ESL/ELS Coordinators Training

The Office of Specialized Populations, Bureau of Bilingual/ESL Education conducted two training sessions to address the responsibilities required of administrators who have been newly appointed to the position of Bilingual/ESL/ELS Coordinator.  Districts were encouraged to send only those administrators who are unfamiliar with the role of Bilingual/ESL/ELS Coordinator.  Topics included the following:

  • Services provided by the Bureau of Bilingual/ESL Education
  • New Jersey Bilingual Administrative Code and its requirements
  • Title III (Language Instruction for Limited English Proficient and Immigrant Students) of the No Child Left Behind Act
  • Assessment as it relates to limited English proficient students
  • Bilingual/ESL/ELS Three Year Program Plans
  • Data Collections relative to limited English proficient students
  • Grants and funding for limited English proficient student programs
  • New Jersey English Language Proficiency Standards
  • Professional development opportunities
