Annual New Bilingual/ESL/ELS Supervisors Training

The Office of Student Achievement and Accountability, Bureau of Bilingual/ESL Education conducted two training sessions on September 22, 2008 to address the responsibilities required of administrators who have been newly appointed to the position of Bilingual/ESL/ELS Coordinator. Districts were encouraged to send only those administrators who are unfamiliar with the role of Bilingual/ESL/ELS Coordinator. Topics included the following:
- Services provided by the Bureau of Bilingual/ESL Education
- New Jersey Bilingual Administrative Code and its requirements
- Title III (Language Instruction for Limited English Proficient and Immigrant Students) of the No Child Left Behind Act
- Assessment as it relates to limited English proficient students
- Bilingual/ESL/ELS Three Year Program Plans
- Data Collections relative to limited English proficient students
- Grants and funding for limited English proficient student programs
- WIDA English Language Proficiency Standards
- Professional development opportunities
