Merit Preparatory Charter School
In August, 80 Newark students will pack their backpacks and head to school just like thousands of their peers. What makes these students different, however, is that they are the first class of sixth graders at Merit Preparatory Charter School, one of just two hybrid schools in New Jersey.
Hybrid schools combine traditional classroom learning with individualized instruction, allowing students to utilize online technology to master core skills. Merit Prep students will spend time in both a traditional classroom environment and in online instruction. Eventually, the school will grow to serve more than 600 students in grades six through 12.
"We are incredibly excited about the opportunity to introduce Newark students to a true modern and personalized learning environment," said Merit Prep's School Leader, Darryl Powell. "We can't wait to welcome our first class and serve Newark students for years to come."
