Late applicationsDistricts may accept late applications after the December 1, 2014 deadline. However, no new applicants can be accepted/enrolled above the district's approved maximum enrollment for FY2016 and all enrollments must be submitted to the NJDOE by Jan. 23, 2015. Late applicants can be considered for enrollment only after those who applied before the deadline and in the order in which they were received.

If, after the NJDOE data submission deadline of  Jan. 23, 2015, any accepted choice students decide to drop their acceptance, the district may replace their seats with students on the waitlist, including students who applied after the December 1st deadline and provided they are considered in the order of received applications.

After the FY2016 NJDOE enrollment data collection on January 23, 2015, no additional choice students can be accepted/enrolled, with the following two exceptions:

  1. Districts with an enrollment preference policy allowing resident students who move after the application deadline to apply late may add choice students, provided that the district does not exceed its approved enrollment maximum.
  2. Districts that accept students who receive a waiver of the application deadline may enroll them at any time and may exceed the district's approved enrollment maximum. A student who is granted a waiver will be given priority through the waiver process over any existing waitlisted students.  Parents can request a waiver form by emailing pschoice@doe.state.nj.us

A Tier 1 student must be enrolled in a NJ public school in his or her resident school district at the time of application and for the entire year (2014-15) immediately preceding enrollment in a choice district. If applying for kindergarten, the student must be attending his or her resident district's public/free preschool; or if no district public/free preschool exists, he/she must have a sibling currently attending the choice district to be considered Tier 1.

Tier 2 students include NJ residents who have not attended their resident school for the entire year immediately prior to enrollment in the choice district and do not otherwise meet the requirements for Tier 1. This includes students who have been attending public school outside their districts of residence or private school. NOTE: Not all choice districts accept applications from Tier 2 students. Contact the desired choice districts to find out if they will accept applications from Tier 2 students.
