Schools in Need of Improvement that Met AYP for Two Years (2001 & 2002)

Seven of thirty schools identified in 2001 as among the lowest performing schools in the state have met their improvement goals. Each school received $100,000 in federal Title I funds targeted to the development and implementation of their improvement plans.

This year’s review of student academic performance data shows that these seven schools met the challenge and exceeded their academic targets. These schools have been notified of their success in meeting their adequate yearly progress targets (AYP). If they continue to meet or exceed their AYP benchmarks for the 2002-2003 school year, they will receive an award of $1,000 that can be spent on activities or products selected by a consensus of the entire school teaching staff as a reward. AYP is a federal term for progress or improvement standards.
