Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching

Kathy Burgin

A graduate of Glassboro State College (now Rowan University), Kathy has taught elementary grade students for 28 years in the Washington Township and Harrison Township School Districts. She has been specializing in Mathematics instruction for the last 8 years. Kathy has participated in the New Jersey State Systemic Initiative as well as the McSiip Mathematics Leaders Forum of South Jersey, both at Rowan University. Currently, Kathy is working as a Math Teacher/Coach and Consultant in the South Jersey area. Working side by side with classroom teachers, she guides teachers in the implementation of Best Practices, such as facilitating an effective Math Workshop focused on small group instruction and Response to Intervention strategies. Working with administrators, she is helping to align the district math resources to the Common Core Standards. Over the years Kathy has provided Professional Development opportunities for staff members in many South Jersey School Districts. She has led many Parent Workshops training volunteers who wish to facilitate small group instruction in the classroom as well as teaching parents how to best help their children at home.

She currently resides in Mullica Hill, NJ with her husband Mark. She has two grown children, Meredith and Nicholas.
