New Jersey STATE FINALISTS

Julie Ogden

Julie OgdenJulie Ogden - Started teaching science in Woodcliff Lake, NJ in 2002 as a 4th, 5th possibly 6th career change in life.  Started college as a pre-med student and quickly cycled through law, literature, and religion.  That natural curiosity and love of learning predestined me to be a science teacher.  That same curiosity also propelled me towards a private pilot license, and a motorcycle license among other things.  Alas Jack of all trades - Master of none.  These life experiences enabled me to bring much into the classroom and the lives of my students.  One of my proudest moments was being honored as "Person of the Year" in Woodcliff Lake for my contributions to the town in and out of the classroom.

While much in my life keeps changing the things that have remained constant is my belief in helping children become the best that they can be and advocating for the humane treatment of animals.  In addition to being a science teacher I am a Bergen County 4H leader, a trustee of the Open Doors foundation helping children and animals in need, a member of Therapy Dog International taking my trained pets to visit hospitals and nursing homes, and a volunteer for The Last Resort Rescue where I work to save lives.
