ESEA Advisory Council
The ESEA Advisory Council acts as the New Jersey State Committee of Practitioners required in ESEA §1903. It provides for a broad-based representation of federal education programs and allows the New Jersey Department of Education to obtain a field perspective regarding programs authorized under the legislation by identifying local implementation opportunities, discussing challenges and key policy issues, and identifying possible strategies for solutions. The Council also provides members with the opportunity to share the information discussed at meetings with colleagues in their districts/schools or organizations to ensure a collaborative effort that effectively meets the needs of students, teachers, and parents benefiting from ESEA programs. Meetings are held three to four times per year. Subcommittees are established as the need occurs.
ESEA Advisory Council membership
Members will be representative of one or more membership categories defined in ESEA § 1903 (b). The Council will also seek representation from practitioners of federal programs and stakeholder groups based on the needs of the said committee of practitioners.
Applicants may self-nominate to serve as an ESEA Advisory Council member. Applicants may submit an application. The NJDOE Office of Supplemental Educational Programs and the ESEA Advisory Council membership subcommittee will annually review the needed constituents and the submitted applications to fill needed membership categories.
