The Night Angel
“You have to jump, Sam!”
His dying brother cried
As Sam thought of his punishment
For refusing to abide
He was on a crowded train
Headed towards an inescapable fate
His only choice was to jump
Before it was too late
Wind soared through Sam’s face
As he slammed onto the ground
And looking back at his family
He could not make a sound
Sam looked for anywhere
To make a new start
He was just a homeless boy
With an empty, broken heart
Then he found a ghetto
With people like him
Whose hope had been drained
And their feelings turned grim
Grim at a world
Who had turned on their friends
Grim at their neighbors
Who had not a hand to lend
Sam lived on his own
And hid his belief
So he could bring food to the hungry
And see joy and relief
The Night Angel
Is how he was known
Helping those who were scared
Left cold and alone
The Holocaust ended
And the ghettos did too
Then Sam left for America
Where his dreams would come true
And there Sam lived
A man who survived
Because of his hope
And will to stay alive
