New Jersey Performing Arts Center Joins Governor McGreevey’s
Awards in Arts Education Program for First Time

TRENTON — For the first time, the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) has joined the Governor’s Awards in Arts Education program, co-sponsored by the Alliance for Arts Education/NJ and the state Department of Education.

The awards program, first implemented in 1980, recognizes talented high school students (grades 9-12) and dedicated educators during an annual ceremony in Trenton. Award winners are students and teachers who show exceptional talent in the areas of dance, music, creative writing, visual arts, and speech and theater arts.

The awards sponsored by the NJPAC are for students who show exceptional promise in music, dance and acting. Eligible students are those who have participated in specific arts training programs at the NJPAC. They include:

  • Jazz for Teens;
  • Summer Youth Performance Workshop;
  • Youth Orchestra Festival;
  • The Jeffrey Carollo Music Scholarship;
  • The Star-Ledger Scholarship for the Performing Arts; or
  • The WYACT/NJPAC Summer Musical Production.
