DOE Co-Sponsors Conference on Enhancing the High School Senior Experience
The Department of Educations Northern Region Office, in collaboration with Passaic County Community College and William Paterson University, will present Transitions: Reconfiguring the 12th Grade Experience on Tuesday, October 26, 2004 at the William Paterson University Auditorium, located at 1600 Valley Road in Wayne, NJ.
This forum represents an opportunity for participants to learn more about the 12th grade Option Program and to hear the findings of the National Commission on the High School Senior Year. The 12th Grade Option Program is an initiative that allows students in their senior year the flexibility to further enhance their education after completing their high school graduation requirements.
The conference will feature a keynote address by nationally recognized educator and administrator Nancy Faust Sizer. Ms. Sizer has served on the National Commission on the High School Senior Year and the conclusions of that group have profoundly influenced the reinvention of high schools nationwide. Nancy Sizer currently teaches at the Harvard University Graduate School of Education.
In addition to learning more about the 12th grade option, participants will also explore some of the ways that practitioners are successfully assessing senior option programs and identify common pitfalls associated with developing and implementing the option. Registrants will break up into "hands on" small group activities and receive breakfast and lunch along with a copy of Nancy Faust Sizers latest book, Crossing the Stage.
Seats are still available for this event, but quickly selling out. The registration fee is $85.00. The conference begins at 9:00 AM and ends at 3:00 PM. Checks /money orders should be made payable to "Passaic County Community College" and mailed to:
