Commissioner Davy Announces Recipients of 2007 Byrd Scholarships
Commissioner of Education Lucille E. Davy has announced that 186 New Jersey high school students are recipients of Robert C. Byrd Scholarships for 2007.
“The Robert C. Byrd Scholarship Program was established 20 years ago to identify young people with exceptional academic achievement and potential,” Commissioner Davy said. “I am proud that New Jersey continues to be well-represented in such a prestigious group, and I commend this year’s recipients for their success.”

The Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship Program is a federally funded program to promote exceptional achievement in students who show promise of continued academic excellence. The availability and dollar amount of scholarships are dependent on federal funding. This year’s scholarship award is for $1,500 per recipient, to be used to help offset costs of undergraduate study at an accredited institution of higher education.
Recipients announced today were selected from a pool of more than 1,600 applicants. Selections were based on grade point average, SAT scores, class rank, course difficulty based on each school, grades in advanced placement classes and advanced placement tests, and other factors that can be determined by a review of student transcripts. Applicants must be legal New Jersey residents and be nominated by their schools.
