College and Career Readiness: First of a Three Part Series
We know that success comes as preparation meets opportunity. Families want to help prepare their children for the opportunities in today's global job market, and they are looking for help. The next three editions of our eNewsletter will provide tips for preparing children for college and today's careers. This edition focuses on three areas: the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards, the so-called STEM subjects in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math, and Critical Thinking.
The STEM subjects will prepare children for college and career, especially in the current job market. In this newsletter, we provide parents with tips on where to find free help and information regarding Mathematics and Science subject areas.
The New Jersey Core Content Curriculum Standards describe what your child is expected to learn at his/her grade level. Knowing what is required of your child in each grade level is extremely important and will help you have good, meaningful conversations with your child’s teachers. By reviewing the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards (NJCCCS) each school year, you can help keep your child on track for college and career goals.
Finally, students need the ability to think critically about problems and various types of information that they will undoubtedly encounter at college or in the work place. Families can easily help build critical thinking skills by the types of questions they ask children. We hope you find these tips useful!
