Educator Mentoring and Induction Support

On February 4, 2015, the Department proposed updates to principal and school administrator residency requirements as part of a comprehensive initiative to support educators entering the profession. Since the initial proposal to update teacher preparation and certification requirements on February 4, 2015, Department staff members have met with several groups and individuals to hear stakeholder feedback. Following the May 6 publication of potential changes resulting from outreach efforts and the related public testimony on May 20, the Department on June 3 presented to the State Board of Education an updated regulatory package at proposal level. Residency Program RFQ:

On December 9, the Department issued a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to solicit proposals from qualified groups to provide residency programs of induction and support for new administrators serving under a provisional certificate of licensure.  The outcome of this process will be a list of state-approved programs for fulfilling the residency requirement.  To be on the approved list, all programs and their respective providers must meet the criteria specified in the RFQ. Updated teacher mentoring policies and procedures, effective May 5, 2014

The Department has amended its regulations governing teacher mentoring policies and procedures, effective May 5, 2014. The rules for the mentoring of new teachers better align with the TEACHNJ Act of 2012, reduce district reporting burdens, and promote flexibility and accountability for district implementation.The links below provide more information about the regulations:
