Since adoption of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in June 2010, the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) has worked to support districts with the multiyear transition to full implementation in 2014. This support has included the provision of instructional resources such as the Model Curriculum Framework and Model Curriculum Unit Assessments, as well as a variety of professional development sessions.
Now, with one year of K-12 CCSS implementation behind us, we are expanding our efforts to include assistance geared toward ensuring instructional readiness for PARCC. As I shared in a Broadcast on February 25, PARCC has released a variety of resources that can be used to ensure that curriculum, instruction and local assessments are fully aligned and sequenced to prepare students for the Performance-Based Assessments (PBA) and End-of-Year (EOY) assessments. In an effort to help districts know which PARCC resources to use for this process, we created a CCSS Implementation Curriculum Evaluation Tool that can be used to assess your district's curriculum. The tool is designed to guide self-assessment, reflection, review and, if necessary, revision.
Use of this tool is encouraged and completely optional. You will not be asked to submit any results or reports on your findings. This is intended solely as a means of guiding efforts that may be undertaken during the summer to make final preparations for the 2015 state assessments.
