|Indicator 7: Preschool Outcome Study - Percent of preschool children aged 3 through 5 with IEPs who demonstrate improved:
Preschool OutcomesA. Positive social-emotional skills (including social relationships);
B. Acquisition and use of knowledge and skills (including early language/ communication and early literacy); and
C. Use of appropriate behaviors to meet their needs.
Data Source: Completed Entry and Exit Assessments 2010-2011
Calculation: The New Jersey Department of Education, Office of Special Education is using the Battelle Developmental Inventory, 2nd Edition (BDI-2) to collect entry and exit data for the Preschool Outcome Study.
Each percentage represents children receiving special education services for a minimum of six months.
Calculations for each statement are provided by USDOE OSEP and are based on a progress category in each outcome area. The progress categories in each of the three outcomes are identified for each student based on entry and exit data.
Below are the progress categories.
a. Percent of preschool children who did not improve functioning.
Two statements for local reporting are provided for each of the three preschool outcomes.
The first statement under each of the three outcomes represents the percentage of children who after receiving special education and related services during their preschool years substantially increased their rate of growth by the time they exited. This percentage includes children who made gains that contributed to a statistical change moving the child closer to or functioning within age expectations.
Statement One: Of those children who entered or exited the program below age expectations in Outcome A, B, or C, the percent who substantially increased their rate of growth by the time they exited the program. Calculation: [(c+d) / (a+b+c+d)] x 100
The second statement under each outcome represents the percentage of children who after receiving special education and related services during their preschool years were functioning within age expectations by the time they exited.
Statement Two: The percent of children who were functioning within age expectations in Outcome A, B, or C by the time they exited the program. Calculation: [(d+e) / Total] x 100
