SCHOOL HIV PREVENTION ASSIST PROJECT
The School HIV Prevention ASSIST Project engages 8 high schools in professional development and team-building in order to strengthen instruction, interventions and parent-community collaboration for prevention of HIV, sexually transmitted infections and pregnancy among adolescents. The 8 schools are located in East Orange, Elizabeth, Irvington and Jersey City. ASSIST stands for “Action for Schools Sustaining Improved Sexuality Teaching.”
Participating schools:
- establish a school wellness team;
- conduct an assessment of school instruction, policy and programs related to HIV, sexually transmitted disease and pregnancy prevention;
- implement an action plan that includes instructional improvement and family engagement; and
- participate in professional development and networking meetings.
