2007 Final Adequate Yearly Progress Status

  1. The results of this data analysis are final.

  2. Data are aggregated by grade range (3-5), (6-8), and 11 for AYP calculations if housed in the same school.  AYP is calculated separately for grades that are housed in different schools.

  3. Targets apply to elementary grade span (3-5), middle school grade span (6-8), and grade 11.

  4. Results for students enrolled after July 1 are not included in the AYP calculations.  (See www.nj.gov/education/title1/accountability/ayp/time_in_school.shtml for the full definition.)

  5. All students were counted for 2007 AYP final results.  If all students within a school were entered as not enrolled for a full year for two consecutive years, these students were also included in the 2007 AYP final results.

  6. Alternate Proficiency Assessment (APA) results for proficiency are added to the special education and other subgroups.  Participation for students taking the APA is included.

  7. For limited English proficient (LEP) students, the full flexibility of the law is applied.  Results for students who have exited from English language instructional programs may be included for up to two years.

  8. A confidence interval is applied to the proficiency measure for both the total school and student subgroup performance to build in a validity buffer.  A confidence interval also is applied for safe harbor calculations.

  9. For participation calculations, the student count must be 40 or more.  For proficiency, the student count is 20, except for the special education subgroup, which is 35.  Subgroups must have 20/35 or more students to be calculated for proficiency.

  10. Subgroup minimum numbers apply for aggregated grade span calculations.  For example, a subgroup minimum of 40 is applied for aggregated grades 3, 4, and 5 for test participation and 20/35 for proficiency.

  11. A dash (-) in the “Made 95% Participation Rate” and “Made 2007 AYP Benchmark Target” columns denotes no students or less than the required number of students in a student subgroup.

  12. Safe harbor is calculated for the total population and all student subgroups.

  13. Safe harbor is attained if the proportion of students in the subgroup or the total population scoring partially proficient is reduced by ten percent over the previous year.

  14. If prior year data are not available, safe harbor is not calculated.  This applies to new schools and reconfigured schools.  Safe harbor for aggregate grades 3-5 is determined using the grades 3 and 4 results from the prior year and for grades 6-8, the grade 8 results are used.

  15. IEP-exempt students are calculated for AYP.  The exemption refers to graduation requirements only.

  16. Schools currently identified as in need of improvement that have too few students to be analyzed in all the subgroups remain in their current improvement status.
