Eligibility and Benefits
In early 2013, eligibility requirements for Troops to Teachers changed. To review the new requirements for eligibility, please review this document.
Information is available in the following areas:
- Requirements for certification to teach in public schools.
- Information on teacher shortage areas and the advantages of teaching in those areas.
- Resource information on teacher preparation programs and alternative routes to certification programs
Financial assistance may be provided to eligible individuals in the form of a stipend up to $5,000 to help pay for teacher preparation costs or $10,000 to teach in a "high-needs" school. Persons receiving financial assistance must agree to teach for three years. Specific eligibility criteria and application forms can be found by visiting the Troops to Teachers home page at: http://www.proudtoserveagain.com. These funds are available through a cooperative arrangement between the U.S. Department of Defense and the U.S. Department of Education administered by DANTES.
Job Referral Assistance
