The purpose of the 2011 Energy Master Plan is to document the Christie Administration’s strategic vision for the use, management, and development of energy in New Jersey over the next decade. As required by law, the EMP includes long-term objectives and interim measures consistent with and necessary to achieving those objectives. To accomplish its goal of ensuring that New Jersey continues to have reliable energy at reasonable rates, the Governor released the Draft 2011 Energy Master Plan in June 2011.

Previous to the publication of the Draft EMP, a number of stakeholder meetings were hosted by the BPU during 2010, in order to ensure that the prospective EMP revision reflects current economic and technological conditions.

The Board is committed to providing information to the public as well and to making sure that the public also has the opportunity to provide input during this process. In order for the public to comment on the Draft EMP, the BPU hosted a series of public hearings on the plan in July and August 2011. As a result of this process, the BPU received over 300 comments (both oral and written) which the Board will consider in its consideration of revisions to the Draft EMP.

In conjunction with the release of the Draft EMP in June 2011, the Board also established four working groups comprised of subject matter experts from various industries, academia and membership organizations in order to provide the Board with specific recommendations on various topics. In order for the public to comment on these recommendations, the BPU hosted a series of public hearings. The recommendations from these four working groups and the public comments will be evaluated and considered by the Board as the draft EMP is finalized.
