On the morning of August 20th, the Governor, three of our four children, Sarah, Patrick, and Bridget, and I, made our way from our home down to the Peaceful Valley Orchards in Pittstown, NJ for a really rewarding community service event at America’s Grow-A-Row. Members of the Governor’s Office Staff and their families joined us that morning, picking green beans from the fields. All of the green beans we picked that day were delivered to the Community Soup Kitchen in Morristown and the Community Food Bank in Hillside. It was great to see Chip Paillex again, the founder of America’s Grow-A-Row. Chip was one of our New Jersey Heroes to be selected and recognized during the inauguration for all the excellent work he has been doing to provide fresh, healthy produce to citizens in New Jersey that wouldn’t ordinarily receive it. After we were done picking green beans for the day, we had the pleasure of checking out the Peaceful Valley Orchards farm stand… talk about great peaches, cider, and fresh apple pies! The Governor, children, and I really enjoyed our morning at Grow-A-Row and left with the satisfying feeling of helping others. I encourage everyone to check out the program at http://www.americasgrowarow.org/ and take your kids down there for a good day’s work!
