Today I had the pleasure of kicking off the 9th Annual New Jersey Flower and Garden Show by cutting the ribbon with what else, but a pair of gardening sheers! It is truly amazing that there is such talent within our state when it comes to gardening and horticulture. I learned that since 1998, New Jersey’s horticulture industry has grown 44% and we are ranked 8th in the nation in the value of our horticulture crops. Those are some pretty impressive numbers. No wonder a show like this expects to see approximately 25,000 people come through its doors over a 4 day period! I had the chance to view all of the gardens with “Broadway” themes and must say I was truly impressed by the talent and workmanship. I also had the opportunity to visit the retail stands and purchase some “Jersey Grown” flowers. Being at the show made me very ready for spring. I can’t wait to get my green thumb back in the dirt!
