Today I hosted the 2011 Seafood Challenge at Drumthwacket. This was a great event because it really showcased some of the great chefs, restaurants, and seafood that we have to offer here in New Jersey. Did you know that NJ ranks first in the landings of clams and 2nd in the nation in scallop landings? And those are just two impressive statistics... there are many more! Our seafood industry is so important to the Garden State economy and this was a fun way to get the word out. We had 16 chefs from around NJ to participate in today's challenge, using Jersey Seafood and Jersey Fresh produce in their dishes. Secretary Fisher joined me as a judge in the competition, along with 9 other judges from the food industry. The winner of today's competition, Scott Anderson of elements in Princeton, will go on to represent NJ in the Great American Seafood Cook-off in New Orleans this August, which will be televised by the Food Network. I wish Scott the best of luck in representing our great state and would like to thank all the judges, participants, and sponsors, for making this a great event.
