Back in June, First Lady Mary Pat Christie visited the Riverdale Armory to announce the start of the New Jersey Heroes Heart of a Hero Scholarship Program for NJ veterans. We are thankful to Wal-Mart for donating $100,000 to fund ten $10,000 scholarships that will help New Jersey military service members pursue a post-secondary education, be it college or vocational school. The application process was open through the summer and concluded at the end of July. We were overwhelmed with the amount of applications we received. It was difficult to choose just ten individuals. On August 22, Mrs. Christie announced the ten recipients at a ceremony at Drumthwacket. The recipients were surrounded by family and friends as Mrs. Christie announced their names and congratulated them. The Heart of a Hero Scholarship for NJ veterans would not have been possible without the generous donation we received from Wal-Mart. Being able to give back to these service men and women who have given so much to our country was such a great feeling. Congratulations to all of our recipients!
