On May 22, 2014, First Lady Mary Pat Christie announced the recipients of the 2nd Annual Spirit of a Hero Scholarship at Drumthacket, the official residence of the Governor in Princeton, NJ. Out of 700 applicants, only twenty two high school seniors were awarded the scholarship. Each recipient will receive $5,000 towards any post-secondary educational opportunities.

The Spirit of a Hero Scholarship recognizes students who have shown exemplary commitment to community service. The award speaks to New Jersey Heroes’ mission to celebrate those who have made a remarkable difference in their community, in the hopes to inspire others to do the same. “From anti-bullying programs and initiatives for the homeless to redistributing musical instruments to students in need, I’m overwhelmed by the commitment to service and volunteerism demonstrated by these young men and women,” said Mrs. Christie. “New Jersey Heroes is once again proud to recognize their accomplishments and provide this scholarship program to help them pursue a successful future.”
