Roundtable and Tour of the Women’s Opportunity Center at the YMCA of Burlington County
I am proud to announce my second NJ Hero of 2011, Cathi Rendfrey. Cathi is a true NJ Hero for the work she does with displaced homemakers in the Burlington/Camden county areas. She started working at the Women’s Opportunity Center, or WOC, in 1991 and has been fighting to help make women’s lives better ever since. The WOC has helped approximately 3,000 women since it’s inception, through various workshops that offer emotional, occupational, and educational support. I had the opportunity to sit in on part of a workshop that the WOC offers, entitled “Conflict Resolution”. It was amazing how much I learned from the program in only the 15 minutes I was there!
After the workshop concluded, the women and I had a chance to have a discussion about the WOC and how it is helped them through their personal struggles. It was incredible and touching to hear the stories from the ladies about what brought them to seek help and to learn how much the programs they were offered had helped to change their lives. The WOC would not be where it is today without the support and hard work of Cathi Rendfrey. Thank you for all your hard work and congratulations on being a NJ Hero!
