Mary Pat Christie: Those are all of the reasons why I want to make him a hero today.
Sandra Bookman: Mary Pat Christie, with her husband the Governor by her side, introducing the newest New Jersey hero. Former Seton Hall basketball star Jerry Walker who now heads Team Walker, a nonprofit that mentors local school children.
Jerry Walker: I won a lot of trophies in my life for athletics but this is really meaningful to me.
Sandra Bookman: And meaningful to the entire state says New Jersey's First Lady. Her New Jersey Hero Initiative recognizes people and organizations impacting the state positively.
Mary Pat Christie: The other overarching theme of New Jersey Heroes is really pride in New Jersey because there is so many great people and we are really trying to promote that.
Sandra Bookman: That's even more reason for the Governor not to mind serving as his wife's wingman on this one.
Governor Christie: These are tough times, really tough times, for people. And I think it's great when people can read or watch about some special person in our state who knows that there is more at stake than their own self-interest.
