Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative:

Mrs. Christie attended and gave remarks at the Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative (JDAI) site visit by a delegation from the State of Nevada at Thomas Edison College in Trenton.  The JDAI began in 1992 in an effort to find ways to reduce the number of children unnecessarily or inappropriately detained, minimize the number of youth who fail to appear in court, improve conditions of confinement, and to redirect public funds towards successful reform strategies.  New Jersey was the first, and to date, only, state awarded a grant by the Annie E. Casey Foundation to launch JDAI.  The Annie E. Casey Foundation works to build better futures for disadvantaged children and their families in the US.
