Governor Christie Taps Dr. Kevin Barry as Next Chair of UMDNJ
Trenton, NJ –
Governor Chris Christie named Dr. Kevin Barry as the new Chair of the Board of Trustees of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ). Barry succeeds Robert Del Tufo, who officially resigned the position after four and a half years of service to the University but will remain on the Board of Trustees.
“I am pleased to welcome Dr. Barry to his new leadership position at UMDNJ,” Governor Christie said. “He has an impressive medical background and education and is intimately familiar with UMDNJ’s challenges and successes through the years. All of these factors make him an excellent choice for the UMDNJ chairmanship.”
“I want to thank Bob Del Tufo for guiding UMDNJ through a turbulent period in the University’s history,” the Governor said. “His efforts have played an important role in furthering the goals of improving and strengthening the State of New Jersey while putting UMDNJ on a path of future success.
Dr. Barry, an attending anesthesiologist at Morristown Memorial Hospital, has been a member of the UMDNJ Board of Trustees since February 2007. A Henry Rutgers Scholar, Dr. Barry graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a BA in Biochemistry from Rutgers College in 1983 and received his medical degree in 1987 from UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School. He earned an MBA from New York University’s Stern School of Business in 1995.
Dr. Barry is a member of the American Medical Association, New Jersey Medical Society, Morris County Medical Society, American Society of Anesthesiologists, New Jersey State Society of Anesthesiologists, American Academy of Pain Medicine, American Academy of Medical Acupuncture, and American College of Physician Executives. He is also a Diplomat of The American Board of Anesthesiology, The American Board of Pain Medicine, and The American Board of Medical Acupuncture and is a Certified Physician Executive of The Certifying Commission in Medical Management.
