A Season of Service

Trenton, NJ -  As part of the Christie Administration's Season of Service, First Lady Mary Pat Christie and daughters Sarah and Bridget Christie helped distribute clothing and toys to local mothers and their children during the Newark Family Resource Network's annual holiday event. Mrs. Christie was joined by Shin Odake, CEO of UNIQLO, whose company delivered warm clothing donations for the participating families. In addition, the Hess organization provided toy trucks for the children attending.

"It's so gratifying to see first-hand the good work of the Newark Family Resource Network and how it is making a difference in the lives of community residents," said First Lady Mary Pat Christie. "I'm also deeply touched by the corporate generosity of companies like UNIQLO and Hess for helping to make the holidays easier for these local families. This is truly what Season of Service is all about."

Approximately 150 children and 65 mothers participated in the day's activities, which included gift-giving and making arts and crafts projects. The Newark Family Resource Network is part of the Newark Day Center, a multifaceted community agency serving children, youth, adults and seniors.

"UNIQLO and our parent company Fast Retailing are honored to be able to support the Newark Family Resource Network this winter. As temperatures drop this holiday season, we hope that our clothing can bring warmth and comfort to New Jersey families, and look forward to continuing to support our local community," said Shin Odake CEO UNIQLO USA. Governor Chris Christie and First Lady Mary Pat Christie kicked-off the Administration's second annual "Season of Service" on Thanksgiving eve by distributing packaged Thanksgiving dinners to New Jerseyans impacted by Hurricane Sandy. In addition, 22 Cabinet members and agency heads supported the effort by fanning out across the state to assist in the packaging and distribution efforts to residents in need. at 20 Lowe's store locations throughout New Jersey.

This year's initiative builds upon the success of "Season of Service 2011," in which Cabinet members participated in approximately 60 events across New Jersey, and underscores the same commitment to community the Governor emphasized in his 2010 inaugural address. Today, approximately 1.5 million New Jerseyans contribute about 170 million hours of service each year, bringing a positive influence to neighborhoods and communities throughout the Garden State.
