From 1979 through 1995, 794 cases of invasive male breast cancer were diagnosed among New Jersey men, with the highest annual number (67) diagnosed in 1994. The age-adjusted incidence rate varied from 0.9 in 1984 to 1.6 in 1993 and 1994. Eighty-eight percent of the cases were among white males and nine percent were among black males. One percent of the total breast cancer cases diagnosed in New Jersey from 1979 through 1995 were in men. (See Figures 14. and 15. and Table 17. in Appendix III.)

Between seven and fifteen men died of breast cancer each year from 1979 to 1995; the annual age-adjusted mortality rate varied from 0.2 to 0.4.
