The New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH),
Center for Health Statistics (CHS) received a grant from the Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to conduct traumatic
brain injury (TBI) and spinal cord injury (SCI) surveillance and
validation. This was accomplished in the past by manual abstraction
of hospital medical records. Moving forward, CHS, in conjunction
with the New
Jersey Commission on Spinal Cord Research (NJCSCR) and the
newly formed Traumatic Brain Injury Research Council, has developed
a Central Nervous System (CNS) Registry. The CNS Registry will
be an injury database available online for hospital staff to download
and directly enter data on TBI and SCI patients. Featured below
are TBI reports from previous years and a link to the new database.
In the future, we expect to feature annual CNS injury reports.
