New Jersey Health Statistics 1996 MORTALITY
|
|
NEPHRITIS AND NEPHROSIS Nephritis and nephrosis remained the tenth leading cause of death among New Jersey residents in 1996. In 1996 this cause accounted for 1,020 deaths, 83.6 percent of them 65 years of age and over (Table M14). Each of the age groups 25 through 64 years and 85 and over had lower death rates in 1996 than in 1987, although note should be taken of the small numbers of deaths from this cause group in individuals under 45 years of age. While declining in the non-elderly age groups, the numbers of deaths from this cause increased substantially in the oldest age groups. The numbers of deaths due to this cause among those under the age of 25 are too small to analyze.
