ALCOHOL AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE
Research suggests that women may become addicted to and develop health complications from drugs and alcohol faster than men, and older women are especially vulnerable to addictions. Pregnant women who drink alcohol or use drugs put their babies at increased risk for birth defects such as Fetal Alcohol Syndrome or mental retardation.

EATING DISORDERS AND BODY IMAGE
Eating disorders disproportionately affect women, with nearly10 million women suffering from an eating disorder. Individuals with anorexia, bulimia, and other eating disorders are at a high risk for medical complications and other mental illnesses. Further, the mortality rate among young adult women diagnosed with eating disorders is higher than all other mental disorders.
