Home pregnancy tests can detect pregnancy from a urine sample within a few days of a missed period. The test checks for the presence of human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) in the urine. Medical providers use similar urine tests to test for pregnancy.
If you think you are pregnant, it is best to visit a healthcare provider. If you choose to use a home pregnancy test, be sure to follow the directions carefully. If you are pregnant, you need to see a physician, whether you want to continue the pregnancy or not.
