Food Day

Food Day is a nationwide celebration and a movement toward more healthy, affordable, and sustainable food. Created by the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI), Food Day is led by a diverse coalition of food movement leaders, organizations, and people from all walks of life. This year, Food Day is happening throughout New Jersey with over 30 events from Mahwah to Cape May!

Livingston
  • Thursday 10/11/12  7pm - Healthy Eating on a Budget presentation by Christine Patorniti, Shop Rite Dietitian. Free community presentation through Township's Senior and Adult Enrichment Program (at Community Center on Hillside).
  • Sunday 10/21/12  2pm - "Forks over Knives" to be shown at the Livingston Public Library. The film examines the profound claim that most, if not all, of the degenerative diseases that afflict us can be controlled, or even reversed, by rejecting our present menu of animal-based and processed foods.
  • Wednesday 10/24/12  7pm - Alma Schneider, LCSW, founder of Take Back the Kitchen and Parents Who Rock, and Today Show guest, presents Taking Back the Family Meal, a free community presentation about the health and emotional benefits of the family meal at the Hillside Community Center.
Montclair
  • Wednesday 10/24/12  3:00pm - "Greenhorns" screening at Montclair Public Library with Montclair Community Farms info session.
  • Wednesday 10/24/12  until 4:00pm - Whole Foods on Bloomfield Ave hosting a healthy foods drive for the benefit of Human Needs Food Pantry.
  • Wednesday 10/24/12  11:00am - Hackensack UMC Mountainside Hospital is offering a local breakfast for patients, and the community is invited to come for lunch in the Hospital's Highland Bay Cafe! Locally grown produce, sustainable fish, and free blood pressure screenings provided.
New Brunswick
  • Wednesday 10/24/12  6:00pm - The New Brunswick Community Food Alliance's first "Policy Potluck" and discussion at Sacred Heart Church. The discussion will focus on the Farm Bill pending in the Senate and its potential implications at the local level.Please bring a dish to share.
Passaic County
  • Wednesday 10/24/12  12:00pm - United Way of Passaic County will release action report to address local hunger, food insecurity and food access challenges. More details to come soon.
  • Wednesday 10/24/12  6:00pm - Media Smarts workshop on junk food advertising presented by Paterson Library Teen Advisory council at Paterson Library.
  • Saturday 10/27/12  6:30pm - Eat Local Food Day Dinner hosted by the Ringwood Farmers Market.
Bergen County
  • Wednesday 10/24/12  6:00pm - Agriculture is the Solution Danielle Nierenberg, of World Watch Institute, will present on the value of localized agriculture as a food sustainability strategy at Ramapo College.
Southern New Jersey
  • Wednesday 10/24/12  12:00pm - Eat Real Cape May Countycelebration including workshops, exhibits and local food tastings! Located adjacent to Atlantic Cape Community College in Cape May Court House.
  • Saturday 10/27/12  4:00pm - Skyesville Presbyterian Church Food Day celebration and food drive.
