Child Care

Report on New Jersey Child Care Regulation Focus Groups
ShapingNJ convened 25 focus groups around New Jersey with a cross-section of community stakeholders to obtain feedback about the current status of state regulations impacting child care centers and to collect recommendations for changes to the regulations.

ShapingNJ Child Care Best Practices Toolkit (June 2012)
This toolkit, designed by ShapingNJ Child Care workgroup members, provides simple and easy to use tools, including practices and guides to implement low cost, safe and appealing options for young children to eat healthy and play actively in child care centers.

Community

Healthy community design encourages people to live healthier lives through planning, designing and building communities so residents have easy access to both opportunities for regular physical activity and to healthy foods and beverages.

ShapingNJ School Toolkit: Creating Healthy Active Schools (June 2012)
Produced by ShapingNJ partners, this toolkit provides guidance and suggests tools and resources for schools working to advance school wellness and create healthier school environments.

The "How To" of School Wellness Councils: Developing and Sustaining Your Team
Conducted on February 28, 2012 and co-sponsored by the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, Rutgers Cooperative Extension, the New Jersey Department of Health, and ShapingNJ, this webinar provides information about the importance and role of school wellness councils, key members of the council, and strategies to sustain effective school wellness councils.

The Importance of a School Wellness Team
This ShapingNJ brochure explains what school wellness councils are, what they do, who can be on them, and how to get a council started in your school.

Physical Activity and Academic Performance

ShapingNJ Assessments and Data

2010 ShapingNJ Partnership Assessment 
Conducted by the Center for State Health Policy at Rutgers University, this report assesses the status of the ShapingNJ partnership and identifies its strenths and areas for improvement.

2011 ShapingNJ Partnership Assessment 
Conducted by the Office of Nutrition and Fitness, this report builds on the 2010 assessment and identifies areas of strength and areas in need of improvement for the ShapingNJ partnership.

New Jersey Data Fact Sheet 
An at-a-glance document for rates of obesity, physical activity, nutrition and breastfeeding in New Jersey (Updated November 2012).

ShapingNJ Community Pilot Evaluation
This evaluation report by the Center for State Health Policy at Rutgers University highlights the process and lessons learned in three NJ communities that implemented obesity prevention strategies.

New Jersey Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative Project Evaluation and Executive Summary
The report summarizes and reports findings from the New Jersey Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (NJ BFHI), which worked with 10 New Jersey maternity care hospitals to change their policies and practices to make breastfeeding easier for new mothers.

New Jersey Nutrition and Physical Activity Self Assessment for Child Care Project Evaluation and Executive Summary
This evaluation reports findings from the New Jersey Nutrition and Physical Activity Self Assessment for Child Care Project (NJ NAP SACC). The project provided training and technical assistance to 105 child care centers around New Jersey to encourage centers to implement policies and practices that encourage healthy and active children.

The Status of Nutrition, Physical Activity and Obesity in New Jersey
This surveillance profile documents the progress of ShapingNJ since 2008. The document presents the guiding goals of the project along with key data points and trends to measure New Jersey's progress toward those goals.
