The WIC Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program provides locally grown fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs to eligible New Jersey WIC participants.
The WIC Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program reinforces the importance of using locally grown fruits, vegetables, and herbs for the nutritional health of New Jersey’s women, infants, children, and expands the awareness and use of the local farmers’ market. The program also promotes the financial growth of the local farmers.
The New Jersey WIC Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program started in 1994 as a collaborative effort between the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services - New Jersey WIC Services, and the New Jersey Department of Agriculture.
To be eligible to receive WIC Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program benefits, women who are either pregnant or breastfeeding (up to 1 year) and children two to five years of age must be eligible WIC participants. The number of WIC participants that will receive WIC Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program benefits each season is based on available funds.
