Workforce Development Program

This program promotes and strengthens the NJ public health workforce through the coordination and development of educational activities, specifically developed to enhance core competencies, leadership, research, and quality improvement. Emerging public health events and preparedness trainings are critical to effectively protecting the health and well being of citizens. The New Jersey Learning Management Network (NJLMN), a sophisticated web-based public health workforce tool, provides access to discipline-specific and competency-based public health education and training courses in accordance with the Public Health Practice Standards of Performance, N.J.A.C. 8:52 .

What do the Practice Standards say about the Workforce Standards?

Chapter 8:52-8.3

  • Each position in the local health agency has a written description which include tasks, reporting relationships, and performance standards;
  • Each local board of health shall ensure that public health staff, in addition to requirements for licensure, certification, or authorization, possess or are actively pursuing training for the skills necessary to provide each of the “10 essential public health services” as set forth at N.J.A.C. 8:52-3.2 (a) through 10.
