Today, Health and Senior Services Commissioner Heather Howard joined Horizon Health Center and Bayonne Medical Center to celebrate the reopening of the Family Medical Center as a new Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in Bayonne.
Horizon Health Center and Bayonne Medical Center are joining forces to provide comprehensive patient care to Bayonne residents. The establishment of Bayonne Family Medical, by Horizon Health Center, marks the first FQHC in Bayonne. Previously, Bayonne was the only designated Medically Undeserved Area without an FQHC facility.
“Today is an exciting day for the residents of Bayonne, because they will now have greater access to health care in their community,” said Commissioner Heather Howard. “Horizon Health does a great job in Jersey City and I know they will continue that success in this new partnership with the Bayonne Medical Center.”
The Department of Health and Senior Services was able to support this expansion through $600,000 in state funding to Horizon Health Center.
Commissioner Howard said it is critical to strengthen the health care safety net provided by community health centers. These centers—also called Federally Qualified Health Centers—provide a range of primary and preventive health services to 350,000 people each year at one of 95 sites around the state. The vast majority of patients served in these centers are either uninsured, enrolled in NJ FamilyCare or recipients of Medicaid and Medicare.
Horizon will provide a full range of primary and preventive health care services throughout the week, with two evening sessions to ensure easy access to services at this new location. With the opening of this site, Horizon Health will now have three health center locations in Hudson County.
