On Tuesday, October 26, Health and Senior Services Commissioner Dr. Poonam Alaigh will join officials from Saint Peter’s University Hospital and Drexel University College of Medicine for a press event announcing a new regional medical school campus in New Jersey that could help increase the number of new doctors who stay in the state to practice medicine.
` Ronald C. Rak, Esq, president and CEO of Saint Peter’s Healthcare System, and Dr. Richard V. Homan, president and Annenberg Dean of Drexel University College of Medicine, will make the announcement at the 11 a.m. event at Saint Peter’s University Hospital, 254 Easton Avenue, New Brunswick.
Under the partnership, Saint Peter’s will serve as a Regional Medical Campus where third- and fourth- year Drexel medical students can gain the clinical experience they need as part of their medical training. The goal is to encourage them to choose Saint Peter’s for their residency training, and then go on to practice medicine in the state. As part of this new program, promising Rutgers University students may be offered early admission to Drexel’s medical school and also go on to receive their clinical education at Saint Peter’s.
