Health and Senior Services Employee to Receive
Prestigious Medical Educator Award

TRENTON - Sindy M. Paul, M.D., M.P.H., Director of Preventative Medicine: Public Health Residency Program, at the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services will receive The Academy of Medicine of New Jersey President's Medical Educator Award announced Health and Senior Services Commissioner Christine Grant. The award will be presented to Dr. Paul at the Forsgate Country Club in Jamesburg on May 23.

"Dr. Paul truly deserves this distinguished award for the work she has done to better the lives of New Jersey residents," said Commissioner Grant. "Not only does she advance important public health issues, but she works in preparing the medical community for the challenges of today and the future."

The Academy of Medicine of New Jersey is dedicated to the education of physicians and other health care professional. The Academy presents the President's Medical Educator Award annually to a medical educator who has contributed significantly to graduate and undergraduate medical education.

This is not the first award Dr. Paul has received for her outstanding achievements. She is the recipient of the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey; two New Jersey Public Health Associations President's Awards for her work in tuberculosis and public health; the Ezra Mundy Hunt Award for New and Emerging Pathogens. She has also been honored in her position as an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey with eight awards for teaching.

"It is truly an honor to be the recipient of such a prestigious award," Dr. Paul said. "I am fortunate to work at the Department of Health and Senior Services in a position that enables me to experience something different each and every day, as well as affording me with the opportunity to educate New Jersey residents on important public health issues."

Dr. Paul began her service with the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services in 1998 as a Senior Public Health Physician in the Division of Epidemiology, Environmental and Occupational Health Services, Division of Health Facilities Evaluation. In her current position in the Division of Aids Prevention and Control, Dr. Paul provides education and up-to-date medical information to physicians and other providers on topics of public health issues.

Before joining the Department, Dr. Paul earned her M.D. from Temple University School of Medicine with Honors and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honors Society. She received her Masters of Public Health Degree from the New Jersey Graduate Program in Public Health and graduated from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention/University of California Public Health Leadership Institute.
