New Jersey Honors Ten Nurses
With Governor's Nursing Merit Awards

PRINCETON - New Jersey Commissioner of Health and Senior Services Christine Grant this evening recognized the dedication, commitment and service of 10 nurses, all recipients of the 2001 Governor's Nursing Merit Awards in a ceremony at the Princeton Marriott Hotel.

"New Jersey's citizens are fortunate to have nurses who are dedicated, tireless and committed to improving the overall health of our citizens," said Commissioner Grant. "The nurses we are honoring here tonight represent the high level of all nursing services in New Jersey."

The Commissioner's remarks are at www.state.nj/health.commiss/speeches.htm and the recipients, including their award, hometown and facility, are as follows:

  1. Licensed Practical Nurse, Acute Care: Donald Acquavella, LPN, (Belmar) Meridian Health System, Jersey Shore Medical Center;
  2. Licensed Practical Nurse, Long Term Care: Lillie M. Davis, LPN, (Trenton) Presbyterian Home at Meadow Lakes;
  3. Licensed Practical Nurse, Community Health: Eronia Tillery, LPN, (Orange) Patient Care Medical Services, Inc.;
  4. Registered Professional Nurse, Acute Care: Pamela J. Botka, RN, BSN A-CCC, (Boonton) Morristown Memorial Hospital;
  5. Registered Professional Nurse, Long Term Care: Darlene D. Borromeo, RN, C, CDONA LTC (Hamburg) Christian Health Care Center;
  6. Registered Professional Nurse, Community Health: Mary Ann West, RN, MSN (Oakland) Valley Home Care, Inc.;
  7. Nurse Educator: Robert G. Hess, Jr., RN, PhD (Voorhees) Nursing Spectrum;
  8. Nurse Researcher: Nancy Schnieder Redeker, PhD, RN, CS, (Union) Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, College of Nursing;
  9. Professional Advanced Practice Nurse: John Farrell Monaghan, MS, RN, APN, C (Morristown) Hackensack University Medical Center; and
  10. Nurse Administrator: Peggy K. Jones, BSN, MSN, CNAA, (Southampton, Pa) St. Francis Medical Center.

The award winners were selected by the Nursing Advisory Committee, which has recognized exceptional nursing professionals in New Jersey since 1989.
