TRENTON - The New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services recently
honored its employees with 30- and 35-year Service Awards showcasing the
individuals for their dedication and commitment to the fields of public
health and senior services - and the citizens of the State of New Jersey.
"I am delighted to be able to honor so many employees in the department
for their years of dedicated public service to the State of New Jersey,"
said Health and Senior Services Commissioner Christine Grant. "But
we're not just talking about their longevity within the department, we're
honoring a group of career public servants who have demonstrated pride
and dignity in their jobs as well as valuable expertise in the services
they provide."
The following Department of Health and Senior Services' (DHSS) employees
were honored with a 30-year Service Award:
- Patricia Bryant, Principal Medical Technologist (Tabernacle)
- Recently recognized at as outstanding laboratorian by Medical Laboratory
Observer for 2000-2001, Bryant works in the Division of Public Health
& Environmental Laboratories.
- James DeSantis, Program Assistant (West Paterson) - DeSantis
is presently assigned to the Tuberculosis program, but has always worked
as a liaison to the local health departments.
- Terence Duffy, Program Manager (Haddonfield) - Duffy is responsible
for the administration and strategic planning of the state's 21 Area
Agencies on Aging and the Adult Protection Services within the department's
Senior Affairs unit. He began his career as an intake supervisor/protective
services caseworker at the Dept. of Human Services in its Gloucester
County office.
- Claire DuGan, Regional Staff Nurse Medical Assistant (Bordentown)
- Beginning her state career at Trenton Psychiatric Hospital, Dugan
works in the department's Camden field office where she does pre-admission
screening for persons seeking Medicaid long-term care.
- Samuel Goss, Senior Laboratory Assistant (Trenton) - Working
in the Division of Public Health & Environmental Laboratories, Goss
has 32 years of service with the department.
- Alan Grover, Manager 1, Human Resources (Robbinsville) - Starting
out as an interviewer in the Dept. of Labor, Grover then went to the
Dept. of Human Services before moving to DHSS for continued career growth.
Currently, Grover oversees classification and promotional activities.
- Joyce Kennedy, Executive Secretary (Langhorne, Pa.): Kennedy
began at DHSS as a clerk/stenographer and advanced to her current position
as executive secretary in the Office of the Commissioner for the senior
assistant commissioner for Public Health Protection and Prevention Programs.
- Kathie Kirkpatrick, Supervising Graphic Artist (Fairless Hills,
Pa.) - Beginning as a clerk typist in the Dept. of Education, Kirkpatrick
then became involved in design and now supervises a team responsible
for all visual graphics work produced by the department.
- Nancy Mann, Supervising Laboratory Technician (Burlington)
- Promoted to her current position in 1989, Mann works in the state
laboratory's Environmental Chemistry Section where she is responsible
for testing water and soil samples.
- Leonard Masi, Medical Review Analyst (Old Bridge) - Starting
at the Dept. of Labor and Industry as an Employment Services Trainee
and then moving to the Dept. of Human Services as a medical review analyst,
Masi works now in this capacity at DHSS following a departmental move.
- Susan Reali, Contract Administrator 1 (Bordentown) - Originally
at the Dept. of Transportation, Reali now works in the Division of Epidemiology,
Environmental & Occupational Health, and is its expert on the Health
Service Grant System.
- Michael Shumsky, Program Manager (Union) - Shumsky began as
a field investigator in Newark with the Sexually Transmitted Disease
program, and now works as a program manager in the Division of Aids
Prevention and Control where he has been instrumental in developing
key programs.
- Elaine White, Administrative Analyst 2 (Cream Ridge) - Starting
as a clerk typist in the Dept. of Treasury, White transferred to DHSS
where she learned to design forms and now runs its Forms, Control and
Records Management Unit.
- Corteria Woodson, Administrative Assistant 3 (Trenton) - Beginning
her career as a clerk typist in the Vital Statistics' Unit, Woodson
has worked her way through the ranks and now in her current role, she
supervises three areas within the Unit.
And these employees received the 35-year Service Award:
- Ann DeAngelis, Input/Output Control Specialist 1 (Robbinsville)
- Taking time off to raise her children, DeAngelis has worked at the
Dept. of Treasury and the DHSS where she now fields calls from throughout
the department as a member of the Office of Technology's Help Desk.
- Bob Nicholson, Assistant Director, Financial & General Services (Hamilton
Square) - From stock clerk to an assistant director at DHSS, Nicholson
has been promoted throughout his DHSS career and has been key in managing
changes in the state's accounting system.
- Linda Townsend, Secretarial Assistant 1 (Washington Crossing) - Townsend
worked as a clerk stenographer for four years in the Dept. of Agriculture
before moving to DHSS and working her way to her current position in
the Division of Addiction Services.
