CMS EHR Incentive Program Registration Opens for NJ Medicare Eligible Professionals

Medicare Eligible Professionals: New Jersey Medicare health care practitioners who are eligible for incentive payments for adopting and implementing an electronic health records system, and becoming a meaningful EHR user, can now register for the program via the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services website.

Medicaid Eligible Professionals: To register for the Medicaid EHR Incentive Program, eligible professionals must register with both the CMS National Level Repository (NLR) and the New Jersey Medicaid EHR Incentive Program site. You will be unable to register with the CMS NLR until the NJ Medicaid EHR Incentive Program is operational.

The New Jersey Medicaid EHR Incentive Program implementation is tentatively scheduled to launch in the fall of 2011 (pending approval from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS)). Once the NJ Medicaid EHR Incentive Program is operational, providers will need to register with CMS's National Level Repository, elect to enroll in the New Jersey Medicaid EHR Incentive Program, and then follow the additional instructions provided by the State. As information becomes available, it will be posted on the Medicaid EHR Incentive Program website http://www.nj.gov/njhit.

Hospitals: Dual Eligible (Medicare and Medicaid) Hospitals can register with the CMS NLR, however the hospitals cannot participate in the Medicaid EHR program until New Jersey is operational.

What can I do now? - Hospitals, Physicians/Clinicians In the meantime, to prepare for the registration process you can make sure you have a National Provider Identifier (NPI) and can take initial steps to prepare for attestation.

Note: Eligible professionals have until February 29, 2012 to register and attest to receive an incentive payment for calendar year 2011.
