Tofuzul
Hi, my name is Tofuzul Ali born in Paterson, New Jersey 1 of 8 children, 5 brothers and 2 sisters.  My father was from Bangladesh, East India my mother from Virginia.

I used all types of drugs and alcohol starting at the age of 11yrs. old.  I was always in fights but I always managed to keep a job.  I have 3 children and 6 grandchildren.  I got clean by way of detox (Straight & Narrow) on August 23, 1989.  I stayed there for 5 days and when I was released I didn't know where I was going but I knew I didn't want to go back to the streets after 15 years of active addiction.

I was 26 years old when I got clean and wanted to change my life.  Detox is where I met my best friend Michael R. and he suggested that I go to Rehab; what would I have to lose so I took his suggestion.  I tried to go to St. Johns which is now called Eva's Half Way House for Men, they didn't have a bed so they put me on the waiting list so I went to the Salvation Army where I stayed for about 90 days and then I was called on December 27, 1989 and was told that a bed would be available on January 2, 1990.

Eva's Half Way House for Men is where I mest some of the strongest men,t here were 32 men thee and that is where my recovery began.  They taught me how to live without Drugs/Alcohol it was the best thing that ever happend in my life.  I started working again on the same job that I had before getting clean, today I still work in the printing field.  I will have been on my job for 30 years as of August 23, 2009.

I have been a Volunteer at Eva's Village for 19 years and I am one of the founders of Eva's Alumni Association.  I still attend a 12 Step Fellowship and I am ont he Advisory Board of the Recovery Center at Eva's Village.  Eva's is where I was taught to help people, so I always as GOD to allow me the time and energy to give back in any way that I can.  It's because of GOD that I was led to Eva's Village and to show my gratitude I continue to give back what was so freely given to me, so I continue to help others.

I would like to thank Eva's for giving me my start and foundation with this new life, I am forever grateful to GOD and Eva is WHERE HOPE BEGINS.
