New Jersey's Pre-Service Training System for Direct Support Professionals (DSP) ensures the availability of consistent, qualified training for direct care professionals who support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Interim Pre-Service Training System (2014-15)

June 8, 2015: Provider Update
Please note that the Division’s Interim Pre-Service Training System will be extended through December 31, 2015 to allow for a longer transition for accessing training in the current model.

Please also note that the Division’s requirement for all existing agency staff who administer medications to have completed an On-site Competency Assessment will be extended to September 30, 2015, at which time all existing staff in the agency who administer medications must have completed an On-site Competency Assessment. Please refer to the Division's full Provider Update for additional details. 

Effective July 1, 2014, pre-service training contracts will be eliminated and the Division will implement an interim pre-service training and reimbursement system. The interim system will bridge the gap during the Division's transition to a fee-for-service (FFS) model. Once the FFS model is fully implemented, direct care staff training costs will be assumed in the rate structure and agencies will be responsible for training of their staff.
