Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)

Whether you, a family member or friend are in need of mental health or substance abuse treatment, DMHAS is the resource for treatment services in New Jersey.  DMHAS sanctions a full continuum of care by independent substance abuse treatment provider agencies, which utilize the American Society of Addiction Medicine patient placement criteria, as well as a full array of mental health treatment and recovery resources in hospital and community based settings. 

Substance abuse treatment services in New Jersey range from detoxification services and outpatient care, to short- and long-term residential treatment, and the treatment definitions may assist you in understanding your available options.  Prevention and early intervention and recovery support services are also available and funded by DMHAS.  You can search the addiction treatment directory by clicking here.
