Hagedorn Psychiatric Hospital Closure Updates
The DMHAS consultant is completing a survey on all Hagedorn patients discharged into the community since October 3, 2011. The same consulting group will track all patients discharged to non-hospital settings as well as those transferred to other state hospitals. The consulting group will continue to track patients until the new evaluator conducting the full closure evaluation is under contract. The Division will enter into a MOA with a State university to conduct a full post closure evaluation of all patients discharged to the community. There was an informational meeting held for all interested universities on July 18, 2012, with proposals from interested universities on the project due on August 9, 2012. The anticipated start date is November 1, 2012.
Pursuant to the FY'12 state budget, the Senator Garrett W. Hagedorn Psychiatric Hospital closed on June 30, 2012. The facility will be repurposed by the New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans' Affairs as Veterans' Haven North - a Vocational/Transitional Housing Program for Homeless Veterans.
